Thanks for all the advice. Cheyenne seems to be doing well though she has been just sitting mainly. I left her cage open for a while last night and she came out for just a few minutes then went back in. She also let me hold her and is starting to come to the cage door to look for me when she wakes up. She hasn't had too many little stress poops and I think she is adjusting well. My roommates love her and when friends come over they are so amazed at how cute she is. A lot of my friends are international students and can't pronounce chinchilla so they call her "the bunny squirrel fluff" ! She seems to be more comfortable around my guy friends than around my girl friends as she jumps and plays around when they come over. She's such a little show-off!!! She has especially taken a liking to my friend Pedro from Brazil. When she came out last night she hopped up into his lap. I was so surprised and he kept saying "I think the bunny likes me!!".
Oh yeah, one of my friends used to have a chinchilla and he said he would give her a Ritz cracker every once in a while. Is it ok to do that or would it make her sick? {Salty snacks are not recommended!}
I want to let you know how much I appreciate everything [that came in the care package] not mention the extremely valuable advice that you have given me. I love Cheyenne and am so happy that I got her from a wonderful and knowledgeable home.

Dear Renee,
I just wanted to drop you a note and let you know how Charlie's doing. That little critter has stolen our hearts. We all love him to death, even my husband who was only lukewarm on the idea of getting a chinchilla to begin with. Now he is the first one to suggest getting him out at night, giving him a treat, etc. My husband is spoiling Charlie rotten!
I know you said Charlie didn't come with that name and we could call him something else, but "Charlie" really seems to suit his little personality. We call him Chuck sometimes but he doesn't seem to mind. He is so expressive; I could watch him for hours. He has never bitten or nipped at anyone (I was a little worried about that possibility with the kids especially). And now that he knows us he comes right up to us when we open the cage because he knows we are going to let him out. He loves getting out to play but he seems very happy in his cage too. I am definitely glad we got the bigger of the Martin's cages we were considering.
He eats well and plays a lot and generally seems very happy. I just wanted to put your mind at ease beacause if I were you I would have a hard time letting my babies go. I just wanted to complement you for matching us with Charlie.
Talk to you soon,
Lissie

Ariel, Titania (Bliss), and Lady Macbeth (Pearl) in their new home (cat is not left unattended with the chins)
|
Hi Renee,
I thought you would like to see how my precious girls are doing. We are having more fun everyday. I'm taking Titania to have her picture taken with Santa Clause. (She has a Santa suit and everything!) Titania has turned into a crowd pleaser. She likes nothing more than to show off for company. And if she hears different voices in the house, she squeals until the visitor comes and visits her. She's a real hit with the maintenance men, and gets things repaired faster then ever before. (Though, I'm beginning to wonder if they break things just to come and visit her!) Ariel is still my gentle soul that loves the camera. She's very photogenic and she knows it! Lady MacBeth has become my little buddy. She likes to come upstairs and watch movies with me. (John and I discovered this when I was in bed with a migraine over the Thanksgiving holiday.) Her two favorite movies, so far, are "Underworld" and "Harry Potter" the first one. I know she's a little young for them, but she was a great comfort during my head pounding.
We've been through 4 wheels now. John and I finally decided to
stop procrastinating and buy a Leo Braun wheel. I think the girls
will be much happier with it. I know I'm tired of wiring in a new
wheel every six weeks.
Merry Christmas!
Miriam
